Meet Your Instructor
Hi!
I’m Kim, and I love teaching!
In college, I studied both elementary education and elementary music education. After graduating from Brigham Young University, fully certified to teach general ed or music ed in elementary school, I ended up teaching Kindergarten. I did this for 4 years. I was also privileged to be my school's K-6 music teacher for 3 of those years.
When our third child was born, we decided it was time for me to stay home to take care of our children. Two years later, we decided to homeschool, and we've been doing it ever since! We are now in our 5th year of homeschooling, and it is a dream come true for our family.
Aside from homeschooling, I have taught piano lessons, voice lessons, group music classes, preschool, and tutoring of language arts and math out of my home during the years since I left teaching public school. All told, I’ve got about 10 years of teaching under my belt, and have taught over 1000 students!
As a teacher, I love the firsts! I love introducing a child to a new concept for the first time. I love watching the light enter their eyes and their excitement grow as they learn a new skill. I love watching them struggle and work to figure something out, and I love sharing my love of learning with them.
I am so blessed to be able to share the gift of literacy with so many families, and I look forward to sharing it with yours!

What curriculum are you using?
This is a customized curriculum, based on over a decade of teaching young children and learning what works and what doesn't from mainstream teaching methods.
I've hand-picked the skills that will give you the best results and packaged it nicely into a 5-phase system so that you don't have to waste years researching and trying different approaches with mixed results.
Instead, you can hit the ground running in the right direction and give your child the advantage of a solid foundation in literacy!

What is your philosophy on the use of Artificial Intelligence?
In short, while Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) can be a powerful tool, we do not consider it to be an adequate substitute for human interaction, personal introspection, critical thinking, human empathy, engaging in the creative process, or using good judgement.
At A House of Learning, we will never use A.I. for the things that truly matter for the proper learning and development of living, breathing human beings. For example, we will never use an A.I. generated instructor or A.I. generated scripts in our lesson videos. This is a vital component in maintaining high quality, authentic teaching and learning based on real life experiences and proven methods with real humans.
